![]() ![]() There are far better courses that deserve their hype and praise, such as the GBA Ribbon Road remake in MK8DX, or MK7 Rainbow Road. In summary, I think Waluigi Pinball was one of the best courses in MK, but it hasn't aged well. DK Pass being a snowy course, nine years before the release of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Then both Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 8 featured motorcycles for every racer. N64 Toad's Turnpike suffers from this exact issue for the entire course, which is why I feel it's easily the worst course in MK8DX. Hilarious in Hindsight: Waluigi's unlockable kart, the Zipper, was actually a motorcycle. This is why open road sections in MK games always feel like you're crawling along, and why the final section of Waluigi Pinball sucks. Traveling fast on an open road will feel slower than traveling at a medium speed on a narrow road. On a psychological level, we gauge speed by how fast nearby objects fly past us. Without Snake Drifting, wide open sections in any course just aren't fun. This is most apparent in the course's wide open final section where you have to dodge giant pinballs. As Waluigi Pinball is arguably the best course in MKDS, it's always going to hold a special place in my heart, and the Waluigi Pinball music is burned into my brain. ![]() Mario Kart DS was the first game that really got me hooked on MK, and I have some memories with MKDS that I will honestly treasure forever. ![]()
